Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

While medical insurance is designed to help you pay for treatments as the need arises, dental insurance primarily focuses on preventing oral health issues in the first place. Dental insurance plans usually provide the most coverage for basic services so that patients are able to take care of minor problems early on before they require invasive (and expensive!) treatments. When you use it the right way, dental insurance can benefit your wallet just as much as it does your smile.

What Does My Dental Insurance Cover?

Plans can vary from person to person, but for most of them, coverage looks something like this:

  • Preventive care (checkups, cleanings, fluoride treatments) is covered at 80-100%.
  • Minor restorative care (fillings) is covered at 70-80%.
  • Major restorative care (crowns, bridges, root canal therapy) is covered at 40-50%.
  • Cosmetic services are generally NOT covered at all.

The best way to make the most of your benefits is to focus on prevention. By attending two checkups and cleanings a year, not only will you have little or no out-of-pocket costs, but you’ll also greatly reduce your risk of requiring services that receive less coverage.

Our In-Network Dental Insurance Providers

As an in-network provider for some of the most popular dental insurance plans, we’re able to offer greater savings than an out-of-network dental office. Even if we’re not in-network with your plan, though, that doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t maximize your benefits. We can easily look over your plan and determine how much coverage you’re eligible for. Patients are often surprised at how much we’re able to help them save!

We are in-network with the following insurances:

  • Delta Dental
  • Humana
  • United Healthcare
  • Ask our friendly team if we’re in-network with your insurance!
