Wisdom Teeth Removal

The wisdom teeth are the third set of molars in the mouth. They are located at the back of the mouth in the upper and lower jaws and generally erupt between the ages of seventeen to twenty- five.

Many times, there may not be enough space in the jaw to accommodate the wisdom teeth properly. This can cause the wisdom teeth to erupt partially or at an angle, leading them to be stuck in the jaw at an undesirable position. Such a condition is known as wisdom tooth impaction and can become a reason for infection and damage to the other teeth around the impacted tooth.

Although it is not always necessary for an impacted wisdom tooth to be extracted, sometimes it could cause decay, pain or swelling and needs to be removed. The removal of the tooth is performed under the effect of a local anesthetic. X-Rays of the mouth are taken prior to the commencement of the procedure in order to understand the exact position of the tooth. After the procedure, we will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for the extraction site to ensure appropriate healing. The area can take four or five days to heal. Caution should be exercised during this period and the extraction site should be properly cared for.

Below are a few tips for post-op care after undergoing a wisdom tooth extraction:

  1. A gauze is placed at the extraction site to control bleeding. Gently bite down on it and keep it on for about an hour after the procedure is over.
  2. Do not rinse the mouth vigorously for a few days after the procedure.
  3. Avoid drinking from a straw.
  4. If swelling occurs, place an icepack on the side of the cheek adjacent to the surgical site.
  5. Stick to eating soft, cold foods for a few days after surgery.
  6. Avoid touching the site of the removed tooth with your fingers or tongue.

Our Happy Customers

"I can not thank the staff at Dental Arts Associates enough for their immediate help last night and again today. Dr Zak Rosen is funny, down to earth and just awesome. I will be switching to them for all my work, even through they are out of network. The office was immaculate, have new equipment and they are all just great. Thanks again Dr Zak!"

"I was in the market for a new dentist (actually I really liked my old dentist, but the organization had too many flaws so I left) and Dental Arts was recommended to me. I'm so glad I took the recommendation. Dental Arts does a lot of the little things that make the experience as best as it can be. I always get greeted and seen quickly upon my arrival. The work that Dr. Zach has done on me has been efficient and done really well, and he's always sharing the things I need to know and will answer any questions. If I had anything to gripe about it would be that sometimes the front desk will ask questions or explain things in very technical terms, which can be confusing. Many of us aren't in the field so we need things explain in more laymen's terms. This is simply something I noticed, but I will continue to be a patient here for the long run. Highly recommended!"

"I had a very good experience today. I am very afraid when it comes to dentist and pain. I felt do pain whatsoever. I would recommend Dental Arts to anyone. Most of my family comes here also. All I can say is Great Job!!!"
